How it all began with the Glagau family
Health is a family concern. Orthomol opened its doors in 1991 and was a family project right from the start. Company founder Dr Kristian Glagau, who died in 2009, described Orthomol’s first steps in an interview that year: “We literally began in our garage, with the Glagau family as our staff”.

Open and transparent communication is naturally important to management and executives. Team spirit, customer orientation and flexibility shape our culture and way of working, for your health and for the sense of family togetherness at Orthomol. The whole family has been involved in the company ever since its beginnings. Managing director and second-generation owner Nils Glagau confirms this: “We have always treated it as absolutely natural that every member of the family does their bit for Orthomol.” The company remains the same even today, shaped by our feeling of family togetherness, flat hierarchies and an open corporate culture. We support the work-life balance of our “Orthomolists” – with our “Orthomolinis” child care centre, the fitness studio, personal trainers, and our “Breakfast Club” for Orthomol employees.

We value our scientific basis and the premium quality of our products: it is the reason why our own medical team regularly examines and evaluates international studies on micronutrients and their benefits for health. And it is the reason why we are regularly certified by the German Technical Control Board (TÜV Rheinland) according to the strictest international standard on food safety, ISO 22000. And it is why each of our packets is printed with an individual code which allows you to check that Orthomol on the outside means Orthomol on the inside as well.

In 1991 the idea behind Orthomol originated during an encounter at Munich airport. Nowadays, our orthomolecular combinations of micronutrients are a familiar sight as a blue wall of Orthomol products at your pharmacist. Physicians, pharmacists and also large numbers of consumers are just as impressed by our products as our own staff – by the practical daily servings, the specific dosage, and our contribution to maintaining your health.
Interaction with start-ups
Orthomol as a company depends on innovation and continual development, and this applies to our products as well. Fresh motivation comes not just from ideas within the company, but also from discussions with experts, important partners – and also start-ups. We are open to ideas that match our outlook. Orthomol Innovations has supported young entrepreneurs for some time now.

And our network is growing! In 2019 Nils Glagau, owner and managing director of Orthomol, joined the successful German TV programme “Die Höhle der Löwen” (Dragons’ Den) on VOX as a new investor. He particularly liked meeting people with fascinating ideas. “I am certainly familiar with the world of health, nutrition, exercise and sport. But I am also interested in the minds of people from different areas at DHDL,” he says. Our CEO has first-hand experience with the spirit behind founding a company: “Over the course of the last 27 years, Orthomol has literally grown from its origin in a garage to become one of the leading pharmacy brands.” Nils Glagau wants to pass on this experience to other founders.
